If it’s free, it’s advice; if you pay for it, it’s counseling; if you can use either one, it’s a miracle. Jack Adams
Dear Ms. Emily,
I have recently received my grant of permanent residency to Australia. I am currently living in Kuala Lumpur, and plan to move to Sydney as soon as possible where I have friends who will initially take me in. I am really excited about the prospect, and I would like to do the move right. I wonder if you could help me determine the right time to move, and the best way to get the right job for me? Should I fly directly from Malaysia to Sydney, or should I fly out from Manila where my parents are based? – Frankly Baffled
Dear Frankly Baffled,
Congratulations on your PR, well done.
To answer the first question, June to August is the height of winter while December to February will be summer. The time in between, I reckon, will be a pleasant period to do your move and job hunt as well.
A fast and efficient way to hunt for a job is through www.seek.com.au . May I add to wait for the job to come first before making the final decision as to where to stay permanently.
To answer your next question, I think it is more prudent to fly directly from Malaysia to Sydney that from Manila. If using the Manila airport, you will be required to attend a pre-departure seminar (PDOS) before being allowed to fly out which will not be necessary when flying from KL. (More information about the PDOS here www.cfo.gov.ph .)
May I suggest to visit the parents on another occasion, perhaps taking a separate trip before the big move.
Hope this helped. Best wishes on your new adventure.
